The San Diego Rescue Mission

The San Diego Rescue Mission is a non-profit homeless shelter and recovery center serving thousands of men, women, and children experiencing homelessness, hunger, poverty, and abuse in San Diego.

Since 1955, the San Diego Rescue Mission has been providing meals, shelter, clothing, education and job-skills training for men, women, and single parents with children experiencing homelessness.

Serving San Diego County at multiple locations, The SDRM helps restore the lives of people experiencing homelessness, abuse, poverty or addiction through faith-based emergency services, residential rehabilitation programs, children’s services, hunger relief efforts, and community outreach.

What The San Diego Rescue Mission Needed:

We’ve been working with the San Diego Rescue Mission for some time now and we were delighted when they agreed to let us feature their partnership with us.

When we first engaged with the organization they had been searching for a finance and accounting leadership candidate for months without any luck finding the right fit. That vacant role was having a negative trickle-down effect on all their processes and ability to run their accounting functions effectively.

We started with our comprehensive assessment and identified 4 areas of immediate need:

Forecasting & Analysis

They needed financial results that communicated the “story” of their financial picture. That data had to incorporate key financial and non-financial metrics that highlight areas of strength and opportunities that drive action.

Team Leadership

We assumed the key finance leadership position and stepped in to mentor and guide both the Accounting and Human Resource team members towards a “best in class” model. As new processes and technologies are deployed, we train and support growth to ensure those technologies are used to their greatest efficiency.

Efficiency in Systems and Processes

A deep dive into the systems and processes highlighted the need to implement solutions that could achieve the greatest results with the least amount of cost.

Technology Updates

The Rescue Mission was in need of a more efficient technology solution. Signature Analytics evaluated multiple ERP systems and selected one that would support their growth and expansion.

Forecasting has been a “game changer” for the Rescue Mission. For the first time, we are making decisions looking ahead versus looking back. What a gift to our leadership. This allows us to plan and execute in a much more informed way.
