At Signature Analytics, we’re excited to offer a warm welcome to Bill Ness and Zak Higson, who recently joined the team in two essential leadership roles. These executives bring several years of business expertise and experience to our one-of-a-kind group, and we wanted to take the opportunity to better introduce them to the local markets that they will be supporting along with our extended services team.

While welcoming these two to our team, we also want to highlight a recent and well-deserved promotion for our existing team member, Tony Sands, who’s been an integral part of the company’s success over the last several years.

“As Signature Analytics looks toward our next phase of growth, we were searching for leaders and team members that reflected our core values as a customer-centric company. With these new leaders, we not only found decades of business expertise at some of the region’s most respected companies but also a deep commitment to Signature Analytics’ mission to help business owners improve performance and achieve their goals.”

On April 22, 2017, Signature Analytics will be participating in Make-A-Wish San Diego’s 8th Annual Walk For Wishes at Embarcadero Marina Park South.

Signature Analytics is excited to participate in the annual Walk For Wishes and to support Make-A-Wish Foundation. Last year, many Signature Analytics employees were able to participate in the walk or donate and we look forward to another successful event! Signature Analytics is honored to support such an amazing organization.

Walk For Wishes is a family-friendly community event that raises funds to grant wishes by bringing together wish families, local companies, and supporters of Make-A-Wish. Right now, children in San Diego are facing life-threatening medical conditions. Make-A-Wish offers a chance for them to look forward to something great in the future, an opportunity to feel normal, and to experience their idea of life at its best. A wish improves a child’s state of mind, replacing fear with happiness and helping them to feel like a normal kid again.

This year, Make-A-Wish San Diego is on track to grant over 250 wishes to children in San Diego and Imperial counties that are battling life-threatening medical conditions. To learn more about the cause, join the Signature Analytics team to participate in the walk, or to make a charitable contribution, please visit Walk for Wishes – Team Signature Analytics. Every dollar counts, and no amount is too small to help reach this year’s goal of $320,000. Thank you for your consideration and supporting us in helping Make-A-Wish San Diego!

My Story:

I am currently a Wish Granter and Events Volunteer for Make-A-Wish San Diego. I can tell you first hand how important this organization is to our community. I got involved in this organization because they helped bring my sister, and our family, back to life after her battle with cancer at 16 years old. Cancer took away many things that a “normal” teenager would feel. When Make-A-Wish contacted us, there was an instant turn in my sister’s recovery. This was a moment where she stopped thinking about her illness, her hair loss, and an entire summer without her friends. She was able to focus on something bright in the future. She wished to go to the Grammy’s and had the most amazing and life changing experience. Make-A-Wish gave back my sister’s confidence and joy for life. Each member of my family are all deeply involved in the organization and have seen the power of the wish in many families.

Since then, the change has been dramatic, with several San Diego-based companies on the leading edge of providing everything from simple bookkeeping services to sophisticated market forecasting. The outsourcing trend shows no signs of easing.”

Last month, Signature Analytics hosted a seminar on best practices for growing and scaling small and mid-size businesses to a group of San Diego CEOs and business owners. Each speaker’s presentation focused on one of the 4 keys to scalable growth: financial analysis, sales process, sales strategy and cash. The rapid-fire case study format gave attendees an inside look into the best practices real San Diego companies have used to grow and the actual results they received.

Read more about each of the presentations below. You can also watch our short video with highlights from the event. To register for our next seminar, visit www.signatureanalytics.com/events.

Financial Analysis – Jason Kruger, Signature Analytics

Jason’s presentation highlighted the transformational changes 7 San Diego companies made to grow their business and the financial reports that provided them with the insight to do it. One case study showed how analyzing profit margins by individual product line allowed a rapidly growing brewery to increase profits by 15%. Another case study explained how a growing internet marketing firm was able to increase EBITDA from 10% to 15% by looking at employee utilization summary reports and analyzing the profitability of each of their clients.

Sales Process – Matt Stoyka, RelationEdge

Matt discussed the specific ways 6 companies used their CRM (e.g., Salesforce.com) differently to drive leads, increase sales and improve customer satisfaction. He explained how a digital marketing firm automated their lead nurturing process to achieve the highest monthly sales in the company’s 7 year history. He also showed how a factoring company used their CRM to automate proposal creation, reducing the time to prepare final contracts from 2 hours to 2 minutes.

Sales Strategy – Jack Kelly, Corlea Group

Jack gave the audience an inside look at the sales strategies of 6 San Diego companies that generated millions of dollars in organic growth, despite being in some of the most highly competitive industries. Jack explained how a payroll services company with slowing growth leveraged client surveys to generate 1,287 add-on product and services inquiries. He also explained how a biotech company ditched their elevator pitch at the 2014 BIO Convention and instead told stories to generate 297 leads and more than $225,000 in potential new business.

Cash – Tony Sands, Opus Bank

Tony showed the financial structures used by 4 local companies who leveraged their cash flow and balance sheets to access bank loans to support their expansion, growth and acquisition plans. For each lending situation, Tony emphasized the importance of providing 12 month projections – income statement, cash flow and balance sheet. The bank will not lend without them and the number of companies looking for financing that are unable to provide this key piece of financial information is staggering.

Feedback from Attendees

“I thought the case study format was great. It was engaging and a good way to understand the information. There were a lot of good antidotes as well.”

“I thought it was really good. It’s amazing to find out how many fundamentals aren’t deployed on a regular basis. Just some of the really simple stuff.”

Signature Analytics has experienced significant growth in 2013 and there have been no signs of slowing. The growth is a result of new outsourced accounting and technical accounting projects, including financial due diligence for a private equity acquisition of a distribution company, a number of financial modeling projects, establishment of appropriate processes and controls, projects to determine appropriate uses of cash, along with numerous companies requesting monthly accounting maintenance and bookkeeping services. Due to the continued growth, Signature Analytics hired Lara McFarlin as a CFO level employee in November 2013.

Jason Kruger, president of Signature Analytics, noted, “Lara’s experience perfectly complements our current CFO level services as she brings a combination of public accounting experience as well as a number of years of operational experience which our clients should benefit greatly from.”

With her master’s in Accounting from the University of Virginia, Lara began her career with Ernst & Young in their San Jose office where she managed audits in the technology and biotechnology sector focused on revenue recognition and preparation of GAAP financial statements. Most recently she was the controller of Crunch, LLC (Crunch Fitness) where she oversaw the month-end close process from numerous accounting systems, managing outside parties for 13 companies including joint venture, franchise, fully-owned, and parent companies. Lara was a key player in converting the Company’s accounting system from Peachtree and Solomon to Great Plains, implementing a reporting process, converting the payroll system from Compupay to Paylocity, and overseeing the payroll process. She was also instrumental in establishing revenue recognition policies for the numerous revenue streams of the Company in accordance with GAAP.

Lara’s strong knowledge and understanding of accounting systems is expected to benefit our client base as they grow and look for alternatives to their current system. Furthermore, her expertise in a number of industries from technology to real estate to manufacturing to retail and franchises is a perfect fit with our clients.
